PROJECT DUE THURSDAY....
ALMOST DONE! yaya. I understand heat waves.... and what it has to do with making cookies.

Monday, May 21, 2012

I am almost done.... yayayayaya. Today I downloaded the videos of the cookies baking and I have gathered all my information/ observations! I am ready to finish the project and make the poster and perfect everything :)

I can't wait to show everyone!

I am almost done!! I cleaned the oven and I am ready to video tape my cookies being made!! The final result with cookies being related to physics is almost done!!

INFORMATION FOR FINISHED PROJECT
  • convection oven has a fan that circualtes the heat/ air movement and a regular oven does not
  • the formal definition of a convection oven is: a cooking device that cooks the food because of the circulation of hot air from the fan
  • because of the fast moving air the convection oven doesnt have to be on as high of a temperature as a regular oven, and the food will still cook in a fast time.
  • the fan in a convection oven works well because the fan circualtes the hot air and cook the food more evenly. The convection oven elminates "hot spots".
Next task:
video tape the cookies being made in convection and regular oven.
then...
  • observe the difference (hopefully there will be a noticable one)
  • make a diagram showing the waves in the oven and explaining the process of why it works this way ext..
  • PERFECT IT.

Today I evaluated what I am going to do with the finishing of my project. I researched what convection literally means, and now I am going to make the distinctive differences between both ovens. I also am going to make the cookies and take a video of them in the oven. hopefully the video works out and you can see the cookies being made, and what the heat has to do with it. I am exciting to finish my project and make the final steps on my project! Physics in making cookies is almost done!!!!!! :)

This website is all about heat transfers, with definitions of Convection and conduction.
In my experiment I am using a convectoin oven, so this website made things more clear for me.
In convection heat transfers this is what happens:
The heat transfers is by the air or water moving away from the heat source taking energy with it.
Convectoin above a hot surface happens because the hot air expands. It becomes less dense and the heat rises, cooking whatever you are making! :) I think that the convection oven works because the heat waves in the oven rise, with energy transfering with it. This I believe is what makes the cookies in the convectoin oven
Over the next few days I am going to research more about making cookies in the oven and connecting it to these facts I learned today. So I don't have to say "I think or I believe" I will be able to say "I know."
This diagram below is examples of Heat transfers. It gave me an idea of what heat transfers go on in a persons everyday life.

To be able to explain and present my physics project on making cookies I need to understand convection and conduction. These are two forms of heat.
For my project I will be using a convection oven, so I need to research and figure out how the heat in the oven cook the cookies, and make them so wonderful. :) Also as a physics student I am going to learn about all the ways physics plays into baking this treat.
For my final presentation I am going to create a poster that explains all the ideas I have stated above. Hopefully I will also be able to bring in some cookies!
